How to revise DSE Biology so the facts actually stick — and how to use the tools on this site to get there with short, daily sessions rather than last-minute cramming.
DSE Biology is assessed by two written papers plus School-based Assessment (SBA) — practical and lab work marked in your school. The papers cover the four compulsory parts (Cells and Molecules of Life; Genetics and Evolution; Organisms and Environment; Health and Disease) and the two electives you choose. Grades run from level 1 up to level 5, with the higher 5* and top 5** awarded above level 5.

Paper 1 Section A is multiple-choice and Section B mixes structured, data-based and essay questions, so practise both quick recall and longer written answers. Paper 2 rewards depth on your two electives. Across both papers the marks increasingly reward clear explanation, accurate diagram labelling and data interpretation in unfamiliar contexts — not just memorised facts.

Revisit each topic several times with gaps of days, not in one long block. Short daily sessions beat a single marathon: your per-topic scores show what to come back to, and correctly answered questions and flashcards are deliberately set aside so you do not waste time on what you already know.
Your School-based Assessment (SBA) is practical and laboratory work marked in school, and the written papers lean heavily on the same skills. Build them as you revise: design controlled experiments and identify variables, read and interpret graphs and tables, calculate values such as rates and percentage change, and evaluate sources of error. Practise labelling biological diagrams accurately (cell structures, the heart, the nephron, a leaf cross-section) and defining key terms precisely — the marks in Section B and Paper 2 reward exact wording, not approximate ideas.
